Raman spectroscopic study of spodumene (LiAlSi2O6/ through the pressure-induced phase change from C2/c to P21/c

چکیده
High-pressure Raman spectroscopy was used to follow the effects of a phase transition on the Raman spectrum of a natural specimen of the pyroxene spodumene, from its low-pressure (C2/c) to its highpressure (P21/c) phases. The transition occurred at 3.2 GPa and was accompanied by an increase from 15 to 23 observed peaks, owing to a decrease in symmetry. Comparisons were made with other pyroxenes with the same space groups. The change in Raman shift with pressure of all peaks observed is reported. An additional change in the spectrum is observed between 7.7 and 8.9 GPa, possibly due to the formation of an additional bond between Li and O3 or some other transition that retained the mineral’s P21/c space group. Splitting of the peak appearing at ∼700 cm−1, used to characterize the P21/c phase in other studies, was not observed. Copyright 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Raman and X-ray investigations of LiFeSi2O6 pyroxene under pressure
In situ Raman spectroscopy at high pressure was utilized to follow the phase transition of a synthetic sample of Li-aegerine pyroxene (LiFeSi2O6) from its low-pressure (C2/c) phase to its high-pressure (P21/c) phase. The phase change occurred between 0.7 and 1 GPa and was accompanied by a change in coordination of the Li atom from 4 to 5, which was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction....
متن کاملRaman spectroscopic and visible absorption investigation of LiCrSi2O6 pyroxene under pressure.
The first observation of the vibrational spectrum of the synthetic pyroxene Li-kosmochlor (LiCrSi2O6) is reported herein. The Raman and visible spectra are reported as a function of pressure. Though the pyroxene retains its P21/c symmetry, changes in the Raman spectra are observed between 6.8 and 7.7 GPa, possibly due to the formation of an additional bond between Li and O3 or some other transi...
متن کاملCommon Raman Spectral Markers among Different Tissues for Cancer Detection
Introduction Raman spectroscopy is a vibrational spectroscopic technique, based on inelastic scattering of monochromatic light. This technique can provide valuable information about biomolecular changes, associated with neoplastic transformation. The purpose of this study was to find Raman spectral markers for distinguishing normal samples from cancerous ones in different tissues. Materials and...
متن کاملTHE OCCURRENCE AND ORIGIN OF ZABUYELITE (Li2CO3) IN SPODUMENE-HOSTED FLUID INCLUSIONS: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE INTERNAL EVOLUTION OF RARE-ELEMENT GRANITIC PEGMATITES
Solid – liquid – vapor fluid inclusions in spodumene in rare-element granitic pegmatites commonly contain one or more highbirefringence minerals. Optical examination and laser Raman spectroscopic analyses of over 500 crystal-rich fluid inclusions in spodumene from Bikita and Kamativi, Zimbabwe, and Bernic Lake (Tanco), Manitoba, indicate that the high-birefringence phase is zabuyelite (Li2CO3)....
متن کاملThe Gas Phase Oxidation of Acetaldehyde Reaction Mechanism and Kinetics
The mechanism of the low temperature oxidation of gaseous acetaldehyde was investigated in the temperature range of 1 50-400?°C. The minor, intermediate and major products were identified and measured quantitatively by sampling directly into the ionization chamber of an MS10-C2 mass spectrometer from the reactor. The formation of H2O, CO, CO2, HCOOH, H2, HCHO, CH3COOH and CH3OH as the major pro...
